Free And Really Useful Software: AviTricks (Video Editing)

by Patrick on November 16th, 2007

Here’s the first post of Free And Really Useful Software series. Using this series, I’m sharing what free software I’m using and which I find them really useful, to the readers of Play Gadgets. I welcome any of you who have great experience with any free software to email me at patrick@b5media.com with subject: Free And Really Useful Software. In this manner, the mail you sent to me won’t go to the Spam folder.

First up is AviTricks. This AVI video software enables you to cut, split, add, edit, join, play AVI format videos. It has an “Analog video capture” function to let you use your webcam to record your own video. It also allows you to capture screens on AVI videos so that you can keep or post pictures of your videos.

Here’s an example (actual size):

AviTricks is a non-linear, non-destructive AVI video editor with real-time preview. It makes cutting and joining footage easy and includes a wide range of built-in adjustable effects that can be used separately or in combination. (Effects include dissolves, mirror image, sepia, iris effects, fades, TV-shop and many more.) Besides the preview screen, the video you are working on is also represented clearly and graphically on a timeline and a tree-structure. Both of these fields are active and easy to work.

Video outputs are either in the form of AVI or Windows Media. You can choose the qualities of video and audio when you churn out a video.
