Good guide! I’m just kinda scared of actually doing something like that. Those earpieces can be pricey. :)

I’m just wondering. Does this newfound volume power affect battery life? Everytime I crank up the volume of my handheld, it eats up a little more power. Since the earphones become more powerful, would this shorten my playing time?

Yes mike it will have a effect on your battery. The reason sony put a resistor in the headphones is lower the power consumption of the headphones.
So that the batter last longer. The battery that sony has choosen is a poor choice. Here is a little tid bit the original design of the psp was to a 333 Mhz portable jack of all trades.
Sony being cheap by get cost down for production of the psp choose a smaller battery. But soon they realized that operating the processor at 333Mhz put a big drain on the battery so the undeclocked the processor to 266
    max.
Sony does offer a bigger battery solution for the psp it is rated at 3.6volts @ 2600mAh. Instead of 3.6volts @ 1800mAh stock psp battery. Which will buy you 2-2.5 hours.

Corection “Which will buy you 2-2.5 hours.” (of more time over the stock battery.)
