English Translation For Your Japanese Nintendo Wii
If you are clueless of what your Japanese Nintendo Wii menus or manuals are saying, this pdf version of a Wii menu-walkthrough will help you to set up your Wii, WiFi and buying vintage games from the Wii Shop. Pretty neat stuff.

Thanks for the walkthrough, it’s very useful. A friend of mine imported a Japanese Wii, and this is just the thing.

Thanks a lot man, that was really helpful. Since I imported one for myself, I only know from the menu how to play the game and nothing else.

Thanks alot for this, you are an absolute life savour - just got a wii in hong kong, came back today and set it up and almost had a heart attack when it was in japenese (strange, considering i bought it in china).
However, is there anyway i can change the language to english perminatly? Such as a DVD or software that will do it? Also can i play EU games?

@Dave. Sorry mate, I don’t think you can! All the menus are in Japanese and cannot be changed on the Japanese console, as far as i can tell all the games will be 100% in Japanese too. Sucks!

Im afraid u can’t change the language in the games but a Jap Wii has its advantages of gettin faster VC titles than the US. You can most English Wii games except Super Mario Galaxy for now.

I use a Jap version of Wii Sports for my Jap Wii, I never try out the UK version before cause it’s pretty hard to find a Wii Sports game (English) here.

I have Japanese wii from China. It’s moded, and is able to play both english and japanese games. The games are of course pirated. I have yet to try proper games on my console, but I suspect it won’t be able to-which is not a problem for me.

How do you set up a chipped Jap Wii? I got one and have plugged it in, it works, all language in Japanese though. When I put in disc it appears where it should in top left of Wii screen, but then won’t seem to load. I saw it work before I bought it. any clues?? thanks.

Hi,
Recently came home with a jap wii. Had a heart attack! Also got from the guy in Hong Kong a disk called “Free Loader for Nintendo WII”. For use with Japanese consoles. When you insert this disk before putting in English games it plays the English games perfectly. Have only tested Wii Sports and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games so far.

I also bought a Wii in HK without knowing it is the Jap version. Can’t seem to let it work using the disk it came with. The disk is a DVD-R which means its not original. I also bought a Wii Play English which doesn’t work. What could be wrong?

The games only started working on my Wii when I had gotten the screen of the tv back to the main Wii screen (with lots of boxes to choose from). Then when I put in the Free Loader disk funny horizontal lines come across the screen and go back twice. Then I take this disk out and the English games work. ALT you may have to buy a proper FreeLoader disk, mine specifies on the front that it is “for use with japanese Consoles”. Check out the web for where to get it or just try to see that you are in your Wii main screen before you try the disk. Mine didn’t work until I was at that screen.
