Sony Vaio VGN-TX27 Ultra Desirable Machine without the Gaming Factor

by Patrick on May 5th, 2006

Sony Vaio VGN-TX27 is an ultra-portable laptop that weighs only 1.25kg (and yes, battery included). The 11.1-inch clear bright LCD screen (WXGA: 1366 x 768, TFT colour display, wide view) is a pleasure to watch DVD but this notebook is not for gaming.

The reason is its Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 900 integrated graphics card or chip. An integrated GMA 900 will not run some games as Digital Life mentions:

The chip is the chief reason why the notebook could not run game demos of Chronicles of Narnia and Brothers In Arms: Earned in Blood.

In short, if you desired serious gaming, go for a laptop that has a dedicated graphics card and avoid a laptop with an integrated graphics card at all costs. There is a significant difference between an integrated and dedicated graphics card or chip. The downside of a dedicated chip is that the battery life of the lappy will not be as long as one with integrated chip. Just remember gaming goes with a dedicated graphics card will do the trick.

Know more about your notebook’s graphics card.

Gaming aside, this Sony Vaio does has other desirable factors:

  • Runs on Windows XP Professional, software such as Adobe Premiere Standard and Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 is included
  • Battery life is around 5 hours
  • Armed with a DVD+RW/-RW drive
  • WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity
